Breast Sensation after postmastectomy breast reconstruction

This looks like a great study. Am thinking they are finally addressing quality of life for survivors. Too bad I am on the west coast. I did have immediate recon on one side and delayed on the other. The immediate side has most of the sensation back (it has been a year) except right over the "areola" and just under it. Delayed DIEP side- no feeling at all.

If it is recognized how much sensation is preserved/expected, then it could make immediate recon a more desirable approach. Although, it still has some drawbacks, the procedure would have ranked higher on my list had I known I could have retained so much sensation compared to delayed reconstruction.

AMEN to THAT idea

I hope they do a LOT more to recognize and deal with QOL too. Thanks for the comment. I had a lumpectomy, but the result of chemo at age 51 left no erotic sensation in either breast, so I suspect some of this may depend on age and degree of complete menopausal state.
