CoQ10 and D-Ribose?

My LVEF heart function has dropped and I'm trying to figure out ways to support my heart so it doesn't drop further.

On the Herceptin discussion forum, some folks have recommended fish oil, CoQ10 and D-Ribose to support the heart.

However, when I research D-Ribose and ATP production I'm a bit confused by the articles I find. I'm a lay reader so it's not clear to me whether these articles imply that more ATP would support cancer cells or bring about their death.

If anyone feels able to offer an informed opinion, I would be very grateful. Tanya - if you had time to weigh in, I would so much appreciate it.

CoQ10 clinical trial

I have been taking CoQ10 since I was given a 3-month Herceptin holiday. I am certainly not a medical professional, but my EF has stayed strong enough to continue and that's what counts for me right now.

Thanks for sharing! I found that D-Ribose really helped normalize heart function, but my very conservative onc advises against.

Best wishes,

thickdescription,
You onc is likely concerned about the antioxidant properties in Co-Q-10. Taking it during a chemo break is likely the safest bet. Here is another link.

Thanks Tanya! Any sense of D-Ribose? Not an anti-oxidant but I don't want to be feeding the cancer cells while I'm supporting my heart.

Re: CoQ10 and D-Ribose?

Sorry for my slow response. I have been on vacation. Honestly, I don't have much experience with D-Ribose. I found this article on pubmed. I always err on the side of caution but this is an interesting finding. There doesn't appear to be an overwhelming amount of research available so it is likely an area in which more research is needed to fully understand the benefits/risks. (Also, note this study is in mice, not humans)

Re: CoQ10 and D-Ribose?

Thanks so much for this! I'm now on betablockers to support my heart so I'll wait to see if D-Ribose is necessary before I try again.

Many many thanks!

Hope you had a great vacation.
