Sore mouth from chemo - ice therapy?
Has anyone had any experience with ice therapy for any IV chemo eg sucking on an ice cube during the transfusion in order to prevent a sore mouth from developing?

Mereda,
So sorry your having issues with a sore mouth. I do recall reading that sucking on ice during the infusion did help. You might want to give it a try to see if it works. I personally didn't do this during my infusions so I cant speak from my own experience. I had a lot of side effects from chemo but a sore mouth wasn't one of them. Good luck to you! You can make a gargle of equal parts of Maalox and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Although Benadryl is known primarily as an anti-histamine, it (and other antihistamines) have local anesthetic action Paul |

I was given a mouthwash of bicarbonate to use 6 times a day during chemo but it was to avoid Mushrooms" in the mouth.

I used biotene products at the recommendation of my dentist for dry mouth. I'm not sure I ever had a sore mouth.
I had a prescription for "magic mouthwash" which is similar to what Paul described but has an added ingredient which totally escapes me right now. Also had a prescription for flagyl lozenges to prevent "mushrooms". The biotene products helped the most |

I think magic mouthwash contains
Nystatin and maybe Tetracycline. It is a prescription drug |
