Skin Mets Progression, Starting Rads Next Week

Well Friends,
It's not easy to tell you this news, but my skin mets started progressing on Avastin, Taxol, Carbo. This week has been busy with scans and radiation planning as we've decided to hit the buggers with the Death Rays and try to clear up this mess once and for all. The plan is for 6 weeks, then if needed back on chemo to "mop up" any remaining spots.
Ixempra is waiting in the wings, and I know there are also a few older chemos I haven't had yet, so I feel grateful there are still options for me.

This will be an ordeal to get through, but the skin mets are becoming a real problem so we must resort to big guns again.

I'm hopeful this will buy me more time, so keep me in your prayers...

<3 Lolly

So sorry Lolly. I wish you the best for
this next round. I like the "mop up" analogy.
I can picture the chemo coming in at the
end for the stragglers. It sounds like a good
plan of attack - stay strong and positive and
please keep us all posted.

Oh Lolly

I'm sorry to hear this. It will be 5 years next month since I first visited this site and you were one of the biggest contributors since I've joined. You were very generous in sharing your experiences and also in uplifting so many on the board. I wish you well. You reap what you sow, so I know that all positive thoughts and prayers are with you. That, along with your new plan, will keep you in good stead. Get well. Be well. Stay well.

Ruth 03-13-2008 12:52 PM

Lolly ~ I echo so many others. I hope that the rads do the trick on those pesky little devils. Will it be dangerous for your skin since you have had rads before? Will they do something different?
You have always been so positive and supportive of many, many people who visit this site. I remember when I first visited how you, Christine, Lisa and Sandy inspired me that so much is possible with this disease. Take care and bless you.

Thank you all for your loving words, they mean so much to me :)

Yes, I hope that I won't need more chemo, at least for awhile, and will definitely keep you all posted as I go along.

Ruth, to answer your question:
The rad onc and team are being very precise in mapping out the field so no previously radiated areas get a dangerously cumulative dose. Also, the field will be shallower so the ribs, heart and lungs won't be hit. At least that's the plan. As we all know, nothing is guaranteed in this journey we're all on, and this is a dangerous game but we feel we must fight fire with fire!

I'm keeping positive thoughts ;)

Lolly;

I'm so sorry to hear this news. Do make sure they shield areas from the radiation spread.....ie. head, jaw, etc. I have a lot of faith in radiation and will be anxious to hear how all is going with you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Lolly -

Unhappy to hear ... Those skin mets are sure stubborn! Those chemos are BAD boys. Did not do their job.
So - Death Rays to Darth Mets. Get those Light Swords out and go for broke.

I have a friend who had some Death Rays to skin mets and it seems to have worked.

Healing energy and love coming your way.

Becky 03-14-2008 05:34 PM

Ahh rats Lolly. Let's hope this new plan gives you some breathing room and knocks those nasties back.

tousled1 03-14-2008 05:46 PM

Lolly,

You have always been such an inspiration to me and I just want you to to know that you arein my thoughts and prayers. I hope that the rads will take care of the skin mets and that you won't require any additional chemo. You are in my prayers.

Carol Carlson 03-14-2008 05:59 PM

Lolly, you are most certainly in my thoughts.
Hoping those rads blast away those nasty buggers.
Stay strong and take care.

TSund 03-14-2008 06:22 PM

I mentioned this to Lolly in a private message, but has anyone read "The Making of Herceptin"? In that book someone treated skin mets with an unusual treatment not usually used for bc...that worked for that individual. An injection into the mets. It was not Herceptin, but something else. Can anyone help out?

Bev 03-14-2008 09:25 PM

Crud. This disease makes me angry. Hope the rads take. Best wishes, Bev

Lolly, You have always been one of my original "rocks" to lean on for the past 4 years and Thank You. It's so hard to tavel this long, bumpy, twisted road that we are all on. But like you told me just a couple of weeks ago, we are in it for the long haul. That really hit home for me and I keep those words with me all the time. You are so strong and positive you will continue the journey no matter how rough the road. We all will. Take care and keep us posted. Sally
