Hello all. My grandaughter has just reminded me that when my hair was growing back it was like her hamsters fur. She says it still is the same. Umm I wonder.

StephN 09-19-2007 10:26 AM

Oh, ya, Taxol with a side of mouse - worked well for me against those liver mets!
And I don't care for liver, so there must be some synergy with extract of Yew tree and extract of little furry creature that is good against mutant ninja deadly cells.

Better to think this way, like our drugs are pets, rather than some high flown concoction created in a lab by mysterious wizards in steamy cauldrons.

On my way now for my umpteenth vitamin H dose. No benedryl needed. Now if it was from RABBIT ovaries - I would be in trouble!

MJo 09-19-2007 02:13 PM

BHutch... Doctor told me taxol is mixed with a castor bean solution. It's all poison! So we get the chance to be allergic to evergreens or castor beans. Add mice when we take Herceptin. As for our furry friends, I've read that transplant patients take on some characteristics of their donors. The urge to eat spicy food and ride a Harley, for instance, when you have the donor heart of a Hell's Angel who loved Tex-Mex food. If Herceptin slipped me some Chinese hamster cells, well ..... I filled the bird feeder yesterday and had no urge to chew on the seeds. No urge to see the Great Wall either. So far so good.

Another idea...

I was thinking about buying a little stuffed animal hamster/mouse/rat and a journal. What do you think about mailing this hamster and journal around the world. I was thinking of taking some photos of the hamster and me and of my "life". It would be a good way to get to know more about each other.
Then I will mail her and the journal to the next person who wants her for a visit. What do you all think???

PinkGirl 09-22-2007 10:36 AM

serious

My last post was a serious question - just in case any of you think I have officially gone "hamster crazy". I think it would be fun to mail this journal around to everyone.

harrie 09-22-2007 10:55 AM

I think that is a great idea! I would do it!!

Andrea Barnett Budin 09-22-2007 01:11 PM

Open Arms -- Seriously!

I'd be happy to welcome and entertain the little desert creature and take some pics and journal -- then send her, and the complete package, on its way! A group activity! A bonding thing. Love it, Pinkie!
I goggled CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovaries). This hamster originated in Southern China and Mongolia and are commonly used as lab animals -- for biological and medical research. Ie re genetics, gene expression "particularly expression of recombinant (rapidly growing) proteins"!

I like the kind you don't have to feed or cage. The perfect pet. A huggy hamster.

Of course -- we must *name* her something cool... How do you like BRAVEHEART?!!

Just thinking out loud. So to speak...

PinkGirl 09-22-2007 02:36 PM

name that hamster

I like Braveheart. I was also thinking about Warrior Woman. I also thought about "H" names like Harmony Hamster, Honey Hamster, Hope Hamster. Any other ideas???

PinkGirl 09-24-2007 06:53 AM

Andi

I like all the names you suggested, especially ChangChang meaning Flourishing. But.....I keep going back to your initial one - Braveheart.
She could be BraveHeart Hamster, or Brave Heart Hamster, or Ms. B.H. Hamster.

I'm going to start working on the project today. I have to get her a passport or maybe just a visa, and she needs some luggage. I hope she doesn't have any trouble flying to Canada. Ever since that SARS crisis, our airport security is very cautious about visitors from China !!

I just got home on Friday from a week in the big city. I had my scans done and then we decided to stay for a few more days and visit a Casino. I have tons to do today (unpacking, laundry, groceries) but I think I'll work on the Hamster instead.....sounds like more fun. I'll keep you posted.

I Posted In The Wrong Thread

I GUESS I'M OFFICIALLY TOTALLY LOSING IT. I posted this under Boobette...

Name That Hamster <HR style="COLOR: #cc0033" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
My Pink one... Looked up Chinese girls' names. Must be a slow day. I just feel so sapped of energy (low RBC) that my brain is too foggy to work on my book. So this is how I am occupying my time. I am successfully amusing myself. These are what I found for our Chinese Hampster -- names and meanings:

BO -- PRECIOUS
NUWA -- MOTHER GODDESS
CHANGCHANG -- FLOURISHING
JINGHUA -- SITUATION SPLENDID
HALO -- ANGELIC

Hamster Love

This may be too much....but my husband and I always liked Dr. Demento....He played Hamster love as a parody to Muskrat Love.... So here are the lyrics if you can stand them. I love that our little mascot will soon travel the world once "she" gets her passport. Hamster, hamster by candle light.

Do it in a casserole is doing it right.

When they're in season, they're pretty pleasin'.

Hamster sandwich, hamster and cheese.

Hamster sandwiches with mayoneeze,

are delicious, and so nutritious.

You can dice, you can slice and fillet them.

Cut off their heads and sauté them.

And into the oven you shove,

smells like hamster love.

Hamster curry, or pickled toes,

Australian hamster tails, any good chef knows

how to make them, or just shake and bake them.

For breakfast, for lunch or while dining,

as a snack munch their deep-fried fur lining.

Into your mouth with a shove,

tastes like hamster love.

Hello girls. Dont you think we are hamming this a little too much. I am enjoying these fun emails, how about yoos. Myra. A.

myraazzopardi 09-25-2007 07:04 AM

Hi Andi. You are fantastic. Hope you dont mind copied and saved your history records to give me hope. Lots of happiness to you.

PinkGirl 09-25-2007 07:18 AM

She has arrived.......

Well, the hamster arrived yesterday from China. She has a tag on her butt that proves her origin. It was presumptuous of me to think that we could name her. She already has a name --- it's Tiptoe. All of her necessary documents were in her journal and she didn't have any problems getting into Canada - no sign of a cough or fever. I think she'll stay with me for a week or two and then I'll send her to Andi. She's already complaining about the weather here, so I'll send her somewhere warmer. Don't worry if you don't hear from me for awhile - it would be rude to ignore my guest.
:) :) :)

MJo 09-25-2007 09:50 AM

Hamster is welcome to visit me any time. I will treat her right. I will not slap her between two slices of bread. MJO

PinkGirl 09-25-2007 01:31 PM

Tiptoe

Hi everyone
I'm glad more of you are looking forward to a visit from Tiptoe. She's been with me for 2 days and she hasn't been any trouble - except for getting under my feet. She's looking forward to her travels around North America, maybe around the world, and she is definitely not camera shy.

Andrea Barnett Budin 09-25-2007 02:20 PM

It's A Girl!

Pinkie, Could you post a picture of Tiptoe? What's her birth date? WELCOME TO THE WORLD, LITTLE ONE.

PinkGirl 09-25-2007 03:00 PM

Tiptoe

Andi, Her butt tag says she was born in China in 1999. I didn't know hamsters lived that long, but maybe she's some kind of survivor. I don't know how to post a picture, but I will if someone explains how to do it.

Andrea Barnett Budin 09-25-2007 03:37 PM

Tiptoe Is A Tiger!

TIPTOE is definitely A SURVIVOR. I believe I read that *statistics SAY* hamsters generally live for 3 years! WAY TO GO, TIPTOE! Come join the 1% club w/me. In fact, every one come join me!!!!!!!!!

The way I posted my pic is the idiot's way. I sent it to Joe, and pleaded for help. Actually, correct that, I had my son-in-law send it to Joe and then I pleaded for his help. You need to take a pic and load it into the computer. Oh dear. It sounds so complex.

Anybody have a smarter more savvy route?????
