I currently have brain mets. I am on Xeloda and Tykerb. I wanted to add Herceptin, but the insurance per won't ok it. Does anyone know of any studies that back these three used together? Does anyone know whih combo is best, Tykerb/xeloda or Tykerb/Hercetin? I started out er/pr+ then it mutated to Her2+
Thank-you,
Julie

did you search clinicaltrials.gov for those drugs together?

I did search. I guess I don't need trials, but if anyone had data that they work together. An ongoing trial won't do me any good. How did everyone get to use these together with them being approved? Did anyone else have trouble?
Thanks,
Julie

Julie,
Tykerb is usually given with Xeloda. The size of the molecule of Tykerb is small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier. It's probably better to use Tykerb to target the brain mets.

I asked our Onc.He said Tykerb and Herceptin are exclusive and are not combined

I was on Tykerb/Herceptin for quite some time. Have you looked into gamma knife or similar for the brain mets? What are you doing to treat them? Some have had good luck with tykerb/xeloda for small brain mets.

I have been on Tykerb/Xeloda and more recently Abraxane/Tykerb/Herceptin both chemo combinations have been effective . I did though progress on Tykerb/Xeloda after about a year of treatment. There were a lot of posts from papers presented at last year's San Antonio conference suggesting combination Tykerb and Herceptin was more effective than either alone as they target different parts of the cell. I'm sure if you check posts from Lani and Hopeful around December last year you will find some. I think there are at least a couple of people who post here who have both funded by their insurance companies. I am in Australia so I am not much help re funding. All the best with your treatment,
Trish
