Hi everyone,
First off, I want to thank everyone who told me to get a second opinion. Secondly, what a differnce another doctor can make! He was so easy to talk to and detailed everything I was wondering about.
Yes, I should stay on Herceptin for maintnenance. If after several years (did not know how many) of NED then we would discuss discontinuing H, but not after 6 months as my onc now wants to do.
Also, he is involved with the T-DM1 trials at the Univ. of CO and gave me all the details of the trials. They will be doing expanded access very soon, and he said he thinks it will obtain FDA approval the first of next year. He had hoped for the end of this year, but does not think that is going to happen.
Also, if I recurr again, he definitely wants to biopsy to see if anything has changed. Reference to info. Lani just provided from ASCO.
So, I will get my Zometa on the 9th and tell my onc. that I am going elsewhere.
I have not had to do this before so any ideas as to how best to handle switching is greatly appreciated.
Still going for the ECHO and stress test as I did lose 10% heart LVEF since Feb. but plan to get the Aug. H at new clinic.
Thank you again to everyone for keeping us up-to-date and caring enough to do so.
Best regards to all,
Emelie
