I had my port removed 1 yr ago...

I had a chest XRay today and Behold ! the end cap of a port is still in my chest!
I have not had any pain - radiologist said that sometimes the tissue grows into/around the port and its near impossible to dig it all out.
It would have been nice for the surgeon to tell me !

Anyone had any problems from a piece o'port remaining in the the chest ?

I didn't have a piece of the port remain, but the cotton packing they put in got left behind. The spot never quite healed right and the scab looked funny. I picked at it and got fibers. I finally went to the hospital and had "special procedures" take it out. It was several inches long. After that, it healed nicely. Very strange...

This is kind of crappy. My port has served me well, I may just hang on to it! But then I'd have to go to the chemo room and have it flushed every three weeks.

Breast cancer the gift that keeps on taking.

That must have been a shock Maria! I did'nt have this happen but the tissue/skin had begun growing into mine and they had a job removing it. Thankfully they gave me extra local anesthetic so I just felt pressure rather than pain. I was glad to have it but so glad to have it out, are they going to leave the bit in or try to remove it??
Good conversation piece anyway lol....

This happened to my Grandaughter...Jasmine that i have written so much about. Her port had been in 10 years and when they went to take it out, a fibrin sheath had formed over the tip and it broke off. They even called in cardiac surgeons to try to retrieve it using the femoral vein in the groin, but they could not get it...they said it was stable and lodged so to forget about it...she has had no problem in the 2 years since.

Oh my gosh !! What strange experiences you all have had. I never knew those things could happen.
I have had my port since early in 2000. I am wondering what we are going to find if I decide to have it removed? I think I will just keep it.
