Her-2: The Making of Herceptin, a Revolutionary Treatment for Breast Cancer by Robert Bazell. It's the book that the movie Living Proof is based on. It is fascinating. We are so lucky Dr. Slamon and a few others kept pushing this research forward through many obstacles.

Yes Dana this is a very good book. I bought it back in 2005 when I first started Herceptin .

I just finished reading this book and am so grateful for Dr. Slamon and all of the women who were involved in the trials. I thought it would be worthwhile to bump this thread back up in case there are newcomers that are not aware of this story. There is a Breast Cancer Resource Center in my city where I checked the book out from their library. I was only about 30 pages into the story when I realized I had to own a copy for myself. I found one online (used) at Barnes and Noble for under $5. I highly recommend this book.

When we were in San Antonio in December at SABCS, we saw Dr Slamon at the bar in the Marriott one evening and walked over and introduced ourselves as the Her2 Support contingent and thanked him profusely for what he had done to save our lives... He was very appreciative.

Had to join the Central Texas Chapter here. I am 65 miles north of you guys. Some years ago our state representative got us the title "Wild Flower Capital of Texas" (or something like that) But people come here mostly for the medical facilities.

I just watched the movie, 'Gifted Hand', played by Cuba Goodin Jr. on Dish Network. It was really good. And I 'Yahoo'ed it and found the website where Dr. Ben Carson (World renowned Neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins) was interviewed about the show and his life story. His Mother is the hero. And I am really proud to have worked in the public library before because that's where he got his books. His Mother, who had only finished 3rd Grade, demanded her two sons to read two books each week and give her a report on them. Both of her sons have become very successful members of the society.

She knew it was the key for her children to succeed. How smart!
