I heard this discussion this morning on NPR about omega-3's, which we tend to think of just in terms of fish oil. (And as an Alaskan... I'm certainly supportive of THAT idea even though I'm not part of the fishing industry... but... our worldwide fish sources are limited and dwindling... *sigh*). But the discussion explained a very interesting alternative.... with other interesting side aspects too:

The long chain omega threes are fundamental to brain function at all ages but particularly at the initial assembly stage.

There are a number of trials that suggest better faculties in infants including cogitative and visual function in those whose mothers had a higher DHA intake.

I have seen a few suggestions of people looking a algae as a future source.

An interesting link. Thank you for posting.
