hi, i can hardly think straight enough to post this but here goes...On oct 3 I had treatment herceptin/vinorelbine..during treatment my shoulder hurt really bad...they sent me down for fluroscope(sp) and there was a crack in the line...my shoulder and neck hurt alot!!! anyway a week later they took the port out and didn't put a new one in because there was concern of infection...Well this past wed. I had treatment after a new port was put in in the am...they didn't close it up at all no stitches or staples just steri strips well I bled those off in no time..Thursdsay I felt pretty good..Friday and all weekend I have been achy in the shoulder, head, neck & hips..I also had a fever of 102 it has come down my hand on the port side is full of pins & needles and I know this is going to sound weird but my remaining breast feels full at times...I don't know what to make of all this..I also have no appetite to speak of. My poor husband has had to do everything this weekend...4 kids and we also have 9 4 week old pups...what a zoo around here...I don't know what I am asking I guess some insight would be good. Thank you.

Tammy, I think you should be asking those questions of your medical team. ASAP. Can you go to an emergency room or immediate care clinic? Have you talked to your treatment facility? The fever suggests to me that there may be an infection.

Fever is a bad sign. I had a staph infection in my port and felt so sick I couldn't believe it. Get to the Dr. and insist that they test for infection. I had to fight to get treated properly too. It is very important for your well being!

I have to go straight to the hospital if I have a fever over 101. Sounds like an infection to me...I would call the doctor if I were you or go right to the hospital. Don't feel quilty about the kids and your hubby. They are his kids too. Take care of your self now so that you can take care of them later!!! I have had infections in the port and catheter and had to have them removed. I've also had to take IV antibiotics/anti-fungal meds to get rid of the infection. Please take care of this now. It is really not something to fool around with!

Hi Tammy,
How are you doing today? Please get to the doctor as others have suggested even if you feel better. Tell them your symptoms and don't sugar coat it. You will regain your strength soon but you must get this straightened out first.

Well I went to my GP yesterday and she sent a culture of the open wound off to the lab..but my arm and shoulder and even my chest was feeling super tight, so I went in the the big wig hospital where I get chemo and I have a HUGE blood clot from where the port is to my shoulder!!! The doctor knew right away by the color of my arm that there was probably a clot..anyway know I have to give myself shots in the stomach for 6 mos!! to break this clot up...I am also on antibiotics for the possible infection going on...and did I ever get an earful for not coming to the hospital sooner!!!!!!!!!!I am really hoping I feel better soon, typing this has about took all my energy...unreal how easily tired I am getting...I am used to pushing myself all the time to get things done...I 'm sure most of us are like that, today I tried to vacuum and only got 1/3 down and sweat was dripping by the buckets and I could do NO MORE..NOTHING!! It was very unsettling!!!!!!!!! Thank you all again for listening and for your support.

Tammy, I am so glad to hear from you. I was worried about you. I am so relieved that you saw the doctors and began treatment.
No matter how difficult it is, you need to conserve your energy and put down that vacuum cleaner RIGHT NOW!! Just STOP THAT!!!! Sometimes we just have to surrender to the fatigue and this is one of those times. You need to heal. Save your energy for the most pressing things. God bless. Keep in touch. And keep the faith.

Tammy
Please take it easy and try to give your body time to heal...a blood clot is nothing to mess with...use caution with that arm! It takes time to dissolve so it takes time for you to heal....take the time....saying a prayer for you.
