I always have some diarrhea with herceptin but it's been more than two weeks--next one is Tuesday, and this weekend it's been more severe.

I noticed it yesterday when I got up in middle of night (couldn't sleep) and had a tomato sandwich on toast and large glass of orange juice. Nausea and diarrhea followed, and then all day. Just had another glass of orange juice, cut by seltzer water and again diarrhea.

Can the acid in the orange juice be doing this. I'm a first grader when it comes to good nutrition. Thanks.

Hi Grace, shouldn't you be working? LOL

Yes, I think so! I learned that when I was a teenager... OJ first thing in the morning before school often caused me to have diarrhea (that and the little white powdered donuts, do you think it coulda been the donuts?)

But my intestines have always been really sensitive to acidic foods/drinks... I suggest sticking to the BRAT foods, especially for breakfast and in the middle of the night for a snack. (Banana, (brown) rice, applesauce, toast, tea) I keep them all on hand. I make a big bowl of brown rice a couple times a week and leave it in the fridge.

It works for me.

Grace,I'm not well rehearsed in good nutrition either but whenever I was constipated during chemo a glass of orange juice or eating an orange always did the trick for me! I'd definatly cut that out after your herceptin and see if there's any improvement.
