I haven't seen a post on this topic in a while and I'd love Caryn to benefit from it if it is effective. Does anyone have any information that will help me prove it's value to Caryn's doc who is VERY skepticle of it's accuracy?

Eric,

Here are two links for you. You can print them out and take them to the oncologist. Hope this helps. My oncologist orders the test for me every 12 weeks.

Eric, I just asked my onc about it yesterday. He doesn't feel that it is ready for prime time either. He is keeping his eye on it, though, to see if the research shows it getting better and more accurate.

I hate tumor markers, but that's mainly because mine were elevated after surgery, despite having a very small cancer (5mm) and no other involvement.

I've had my Bayer done twice. First time, right after beginning chemo and herceptin, it was 16, which is one point above normal. The last time it was 11.3, which according to the literature means that herceptin is working.

To know if it's working it must come down at least 20%, supposedly.

My own thought is that I wish I never went down that road, because now all I do is worry about mets. In other words, I'm a coward!

However, Gina, formerly a frequent poster, swears by this test and she uses it to see when she should go back on herceptin. She's been Stage IV for many years. You might check her posts to see what she had to say about the Bayer Serum test.
