This is the first time that frequent low doses of bisphosphonates such as Zometa or Clodronate are shown to be active against metastatic bone cancer in animal studies. Higher doses had previously been known to reduce risk of metastases in humans & to possibly slow progression.
The new finding has some superficial similarity with the low dose metronomic regimen of some chemo drugs such as Cytoxan.
