As anyone else experinced a lot of heartburn while on Herceptin. I seem to get it almost daily since I started on weekly Herceptin back in November. Some days it is only mild, but others it is very severe. My doctor did prescribe something for it but some days it is so bad the medicine doesn't seem to help.

Thanks for the input.

I used to also get heart burn as well. I was given Nexium to take. There were day's when I had to take two, one in teh morning and one in the evening, HOWEVER don't do this unless your Doctor say's you can. Since finishing my herceptin, this has all gone away.

Am I glad for this thread. I too have been experiencing heartburn, been on Herceptin since March 2005 and just started with the heartburn a month or so ago. Mine is actually more of a sour stomache sort of feel. I hate bringing every little ache and pain up to my onc so am always glad to hear that others are having same side affects.

I have sporadic wicked heartburn that began after H but has continued after. I'm beginning to think it might be tamoxifen or zoloft that are causing it as I do notice it the most after I take my oral meds. BB

Stephanie,

I have had heartburn every day since I started Herceptin. I have been off a month now, and I still have it. Zantac is the only medication that works for me.

I have a problem as well. It did start during Herceptin and now has continued since I completed Herceptin.

Yes. Heartburn for me was worst the first 3 days after my Herceptin treatment.

I too get some bad heartburn for several days after my Taxotere/Herceptin treatments. I have a hiatal (sp?) hernia, too, but over the counter stuff usually helps. I don't recall if I had this problem when I was on Herceptin alone. I've found that eating sugary treats really aggravates my heartburn, another reason to eat healthy!

Hi,
Have you raised the head of your bed? that can help. I think they suggest 4 inches.
Check on www.mayoclinic.com (http://www.mayoclinic.com) under acid reflux or GERD.
I had it at the start of the 3rd week of radiation - I woke up with my esophagus and the whole front of me feeling as though it was on fire. My husband made me gulp some Maalox liquid which helped and of course I sat up and read after that since lying down aggravates it. The next day the radiologist gave me something like a Maalox. My husband likes Inexium not to be confused with Nexium for his heartburn and also just plain old liquid Maalox. Be sure to stand up or sit up when it comes on and don't eat acidic things at night.
good luck.
