Just for all for encouragement! That is why I love this site. My wife Kathy had her scans the other day. All was stable. She went through her second round of chemo (carbo, taxol, and herceptin) after almost 4 years stable on Aridimex and Zometa. She is stage four from the beginning. Things started changing again early last year, but very slowly. Started to see small sub micron in the lung and liver. We moved from California from a great oncologist. ( Dr. Brouillard ), during that tiime. Finding another Onc to be comfortable with was hard. We moved back to Chicago and started seeing the new Onc. (Dr. Gradishar - Northwestern Univ.) It was a little discomforting. We went from a small office that handle not so many patients with much personal care to a huge Hospital who handle thousands. The personal care there is not to say. We stuck with him. We tried a drug trial(big mistake). Wasted 3 months. Then we hit the big stuff in January this year. ( Carbo, Taxol and Herceptin) It worked great after the 3 months and scans. All markers decreased to un perceptible. Continued on for another three months and now on Herceptin only. LAST SCANS GREAT! EVERYTHING STABLE!
I JUST WANT ALL TO KNOW THERE IS HOPE! DON'T DROP THE BALL. I MEAN, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK ANY ABNORMALITY, FEELING WHATEVER - GET IT CHECKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! STAY EDUCATED. EAT WELL AND HEALTHY AND PRAY ALOT! I WORRY EVERYDAY FOR HER AND PRAY THERE IS ANOTHER DRUG TO REPLACE THE NEXT. HOPEFULLY NOT FOR A WHILE.
Thanks
John

Great news! Sorry you had to find a new oncologist as it takes time to build a relationship with the doc. Continued good luck to you both.

John, such wonderful news! It's really an awsome feeling when such excellent results are achieved after such a scary time, and especially when changing locations, oncs etc is part of the picture. Take a deep breath and enjoy the summer!

John,
That's great news.... stuff like this gives everyone on the site hope. About the drugs, being stable etc. I think that this is where you could start loooking into vaccine trials as they have shown much promise in cases like Kathy's. Also, most drugs work for a while and then start loosing effectiveness due to resistance however...the good news is that many can be reused after 6 months with equal to original effectiveness. Drugs such as navelbine and xeloda are far friendlier than carbo and taxol and often just as effective in knocking-out mets. You could alos think about tykerb.
Great news and good luck,
Al
