Only just joined this wonderful Group and have already posted a question, but thought you might like to hear about some fun fund-raising I did ....
In May 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and in an attempt to take SOME control back over my life (well, with regards to my hair anyway!), I decided to do a sponsored headshave - the day before my first session of 6 months chemo' started!!
Then when my hair started to grow back, I thought it would be a good idea to raise even more money for the local cancer support charity who have helped my husband and I over the last year, so guess what I did? Yep - I did a 'Flash and Feel Appeal'. Now don't get the wrong idea here .... the 'flash' involved me removing my wig (for a set amount of money), and then for an additional small fee, people could 'feel' the lovely baby-soft hair growth. It went down a storm!
Along with lots of other fund-raising help from friends, family and the public, I raised over £3000.00 for the charity (sorry - not sure of the $ equivalent right now).
The positive 'buzz' I got from doing both events, was well worth it. So go for it - you too could come up with some good fund-raising ideas and help a charity of your choice!
