View Full Version : Herceptin in Pill Form?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was aware of any work being done to make Herceptin available as an oral dosage rather than IV? I looked on the Genentech website but did not see anything noted.
As usual, I'm appreciative of the collective knowledge, research and experience of the members of this forum.

I sure don't have the answer to that question...but all I know is it sure would be NICE. I go for weekly herceptin...so I would love a oral form of it. But I have a feeling...if that was to happen...it will be a while. Sure is a nice thought though.
There are some awesome people on this board that stays on top of all the recent news...so maybe we will ge surprised and find there will be one some sooner then I think. :)

Just as a follow-up. I e-mailed Genentech today, with the question "Is there any current plan to provide Herceptin as an oral dosage rather than IV?" They called me back within an hour, and their response was "There is nothing we can report on at this time regarding your question." I pushed a little bit but they repeated the same response.

I have been on Herceptin only, for about 2.5 years now. I receive it every 3 weeks and its not the first time i've commented on, how it would suit everyone if it was in tablet form. I was told that at this time, because of the expense of the drug, it has to be monitored. That is, we must be seen to be well enough before they will make it up. I sometimes feel i'm taking up an appointment, that someone, who is really ill could use, although I would miss seeing all the people i've come to meet over the years...
