Hey, has anyone who has been on this trial and out 6 months started taking blood tests for HER2 and echo...something to monitor? I had my 3 month check up, (went great) and the study nurse said they will start taking samples of my blood for HER2 and the heart. She really didn't know what there were and was going to look into them and we thought we would find out when we got copies of the lab results of what they are looking for. Just looking for a heads up. Thanks, k

Hi Kristen. I am out 7 months from the CALGB 49909 trial and no mention of Her2 bloodwork for me. I did have to have the MUGA 3 months after I finished but no more as far as the trial is concerned. I'd be interested in knowing what blood test they perform if you don't mind. Glad to hear all is well.

Thanks,
Sue

I've been interested in getting the her2 serum test as a regular marker for all her2neu bc patients. I was happy to see this blood test being used by your Onc. or even in a clinical trial. I asked my Onc to look into using this blood test to monitor our progress, hoping to get her to understand that this can be a valuable tool to back up our other tumor markersyhat sometimes do not have true valies. I see nothing wrong with either echo's or the serum her2 tests. I prefer echo to mugga scansw/ radio isotope injection. I try to steer away from from any form of radiation which can be easily avoided. I like saving radiation for furture when absolutly necessary.

Warm well wishes, Christine

Christine,
Do you think this is the HER2 test that Bayer has put out for mets patients? That is what I told my study nurse I thought it would be. I have been questioning why it only works on met patients and why can't it be used in first timers. It will be interesting to see if this is the same test.

The heart blood test is called an ECD cardiac bio chem markers. I really pleased that this is included in the study and hope it to be very beneficical to all HER2 patients. Thank you Christine for your thoughts. Take Care K
