Hello!

My Mom had frequent nose bleeds while taking taxol/carbo/herceptin. She is now on herceptin only and is still having occasional nose bleeds. This is making her a little nervous b/c we had always attributed the nose bleeds to the chemo. Has anyone else experienced this? Any other causes for nose bleeds that we might not be thinking of?

Thank you,
Brittany

Hi Brittany,
Reduced platelet counts due to chemo would interfere with clotting and the nose is always a favourite place for this to happen.

I did Herceptin for about 1 1/2 years and had small nose bleeds almost constantly. It was annoying but not much more than that to me.

I experience nose bleeds all the time on herceptin alone. It goes along with the constantly runny nose. I don't think it indicates any problem, just a sore nose!

I was told it was the Taxatiere. I use saline nose spray with eucalyptus to keep my nose moist. This is one of those little things that can drive you crazy. When I first relapsed, a woman on another board posted her story about the nose bleeds. Her's was so bad, she now has a permanent hole in the passage between the nostrils. I know this is gross, and it scared the cr@p out of me, but this seems to be one of those little problems the doctors seem to brush off. Keep your bedroom air moist with a humidifier, use the saline and don't blow to hard. Maryann
