Is it really true that there is a resistance to herceptin over time? Is that evidence still out because it is so new? I just figured I would be on herceptin the rest of my life and if I went off herceptin I would get a recurrence. Even if i went on vacation, I understood it was very important that I keep on my once every 3 week schedule. Are there stats on this somewhere?

My onc. told me I would continue on Herceptin indefinitely.

My oncologist (who is a professor of oncology) and was one of the first oncologists in the country to use Herceptin told me that if it continues to work, I will be on it 5-7 years if not longer...and if mets reoccur, other agents will be added.

I have read that your body can build up resistance to herceptin over time. The way the article was written, it seems that this doesn't happen with everyone, but is a distinct possibility. The article is located in the message board under "articles of interest". I can't recall which one as I read the whole works at once...........you'll have to hunt.
